Here is our latest sermon

This weeks Sunday School lesson.

Covid-19 update

Hello Church!

What a time we have found ourselves in. I pray that as we navigate our new ‘normal’ that each of you are turning to the Spirit for wisdom and guidance. Please know that I have! I know that my response as your pastor may seem slow but I am always inclined to move somewhat slowly as I pray, read and seek wisdom in how I lead.

As I have shared on our Facebook page, one verse that has been continually with me this last week is Romans 12:2: Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.

As the elders and I have met (via telephone) and prayed and discerned God’s will for our church, we have to acknowledge that the wisest step is to stop holding in-person services. This is a sad thing; please know that was an incredibly difficult decision. However, I will continue to preach the good and great news of the person of Jesus, and those sermons will be filmed and available online. We will send a link to everyone who receives our church e-news, and I will post links on Facebook as well.

Please prayerfully consider your tithing. Our church family is so faithful and if you typically tithe during collection time using your envelopes, you may want to temporarily switch to using e-transfer.
E-transfers are being accepted; please use the email address: office@fbcnelson.ca. Please use the security question ‘street church is on’ and have the answer be ‘fifth’.

All church-run events are cancelled for the time being but we are praying that we can keep the building running as usual so that when this health crisis is lifted, we can gather as soon as possible. What a joyous occassion that will be!

Please be gentle with one another, and phone one another. Pray together. I want to offer you a challenge, as I do every Sunday, to spend more time in your bible. I’m going to ask you to read or listen to an audio bible for each minute that you spend on social media or reading the news. If you’re not sure what to read, please start in any gospel. That might seem like a lot but I can’t wait to witness how we are all transformed, by the renewing of our minds, as we find new habits.

Finally, please don’t hesitate to call myself or the elders if you are anxious and experiencing fear. We are here to serve you spiritually. I want to leave you with this prayer from from Julian of Norwish, a contemplative nun who lived most of her adult life in total isolation as she sought God. In a vision of Jesus she was given this phrase from Him: ‘All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of thing shall be well.’

In peace,

Pastor Sara and the Elders Board of First Baptist Church
